As we come to the end of another year at SwissVBS, we like to reflect back on our journey and some of the highlights of the year.
For us, 2016 was clearly marked by three significant trends and strategic needs in the industry – Sales Enablement, Mobile Learning Reinforcement and quantifiable analytics.
Previous trends and developments leading up to 2016 have included the rise of micro-learning, gamification, multi-platform access, social learning, business simulation, video-learning, scenario-based learning etc., these are all trends in their own right, and can greatly enhance training content and user engagement. But what advances in technology and modern studies in cognitive psychology have helped us to realize is not only the value of, but also the array of possibilities that mobile can bring to the learning journey, specifically in its application for learning reinforcement, sales enablement and the ability to generate powerful data.
Businesses are clamouring for mobile learning reinforcement to sustain and fully realize the intended goals of training, they are also looking for ways to better arm their sales reps with the right knowledge and tools at the point of sales. They are feeling more and more pressed to demonstrate positive ROI that is clearly mapped to predefined metrics and competencies – as well as powerful data to help them make critical decisions at the level of business strategy and content design.
In short, technology is advancing, the nature of training is transitioning and businesses are increasingly challenged to stay ahead of the curve.
All of this makes it a very exciting time to be a part of this industry. But the trick is to know when and how to harness the power of these tools and latest trends while also maintaining the integrity of tried tested and true instructional design principles. It’s not about latching on to the next big thing just because it is shiny and new and the competition might be doing it, but rather it’s about always putting the learner and the business at the centre of the journey and defining success for both of them. The solutions should be dictated by how success is defined, not the other way around.
At SwissVBS, we are truly grateful for the learning and business ecosystem that surrounds us – our partners, our customers, bloggers, industry experts, award givers :), and yes, even our competitors, all of whom make this an exciting industry to be a part of and keep pushing us to fulfill our mandate: to provide value at every step of the learning journey.
With 2016 coming to an end, we look back and remember a flurry of (organized chaos) 15th anniversary activities ranging from webinars and hosting our first Digital Learning Summit in Toronto, a Sales Enablement Forum in Germany, attending multiple conferences in North America and Europe, launching our Mobile Reinforcement ECHO app, to winning three great awards from Brandon Hall for content solutions and advances in technology solutions and on and on.
Looking forward to 2017, we expect the 2016 trends to continue with even greater intensity resulting in increased demand for mobile reinforcement, sales enablement and demonstrable analytics. With our ECHO, SET and Microsoft Power BI capabilities, we welcome 2017 with open arms.
Happy Holidays and see you on the other side!
